SEKEM, one of our DESALT partners in Egypt, has the ambition to start a first its kind Agroforestry project with extreme diversity.
On a plot of 3 hectares, not less than 32 different tree species, 10 perennial crops and 30 annual crops will be intercropped in an commercial set up.
The design of the 3 hectares is presented below and will contain 3 different management practices. It is important to experimented with different management strategies to get comfortable with the most effective way of managing complex agroforestry systems. This project will give the partners valuable information on best practices for commercial agroforestry in Egypt.
